City Manager discusses Maryville mask ordinance

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Maryville City Council has unanimously approved a face mask ordinance. Dozens of residents attended the Wednesday morning hearing, some wearing masks and others not.

The city council voted after hearing from several outspoken residents at the meeting. City Manager Greg McDanel says city council members heard from citizens and health officials before making their decision.

McDanel adds the ordinance applies to people over the age of 10 while inside public buildings, at businesses open to the public and outside when social distancing isn't possible.

Residents who violate the ordinance could face a fine up to $100 and businesses could face a fine up to $250 if they egregiously fail to comply with the ordinance.

The mask ordinance goes into effect Monday, July 27.
